Vaccinating your dog


By vaccinating your pet dogs, you help protect your furry friend from various diseases including rabies, distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, bordetella, feline leukemia and others. Vaccinating your pets annually helps lessen the spread of infectious diseases throughout pet populations.

For Dogs: Vaccines for canine parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis and rabies are considered core vaccines.These include vaccines against Bordetella bronchiseptica, Borrelia burgdorferi and Leptospira bacteria.

Why vaccination your pet is important?

Vaccines work by exposing your pet’s immune system to an infection. This causes the animal’s white blood cells to start producing antibodies. The antibodies bind to the infection and neutralise it, working to kill off cells that have been infected.
Your pet’s body will remember this process and if their system is ever struck by the same infection, they’ll automatically produce the same strong immune response to fight it off.

Can a pet owner do vaccination at home?

 Vaccination can be done by the pet owner  at home but it requires knowledge of the dossage, age, weight and correct procedure. It is always adviced to consult your vet for necessary training and councelling. Safety of your pet is utmost importance and need to be done correctly.

Dog breeds

Dogs  are classified into 7 different groups. Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Working, Hounds, Terriers, and Toy breeds.  They all have different purposes and based on uses and characteristics, these different groups are used as a way to identify dogs.   Herding Dogs:   The Herding group was created in 1983 and is the newest group that was classified by the American Kennel Club.  Before this group was created, the dogs that are in this group currently were previously a part of the Working group.  A Herding dog is described as a dog that is easily trained to help with herding purposes.  Some of the dog breeds that fit under this category would be the Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and Old English Sheepdogs among others.  These dogs are great for herding for farm purposes among others, but require lots of space to run around and exercise.
