Feeding your dog

Most veterinarians recommend feeding your dog twice a day — once in the morning and once in the evening. Puppies under five months of age should be fed three to four times a day in small quantities.

It’s important to remember all dogs are individuals, and what diet might be fine for your friend’s dog may be completely inappropriate for your dog. When it comes to a daily diet for your dog, it’s important to consult with your vet.

The amount of food your dog needs will largely depend on the size, breed and age of your dog, as well as how regularly it exercises. The key is to ensure you don’t overfeed or underfeed your dog. If ever you’re unsure, ask your vet to assess your dog’s diet and nutrition, and the condition of its body and overall health.

Always ensure your dog is well hydrated. This means making sure their water bowl is filled up at all times and is changed daily, so they can help themselves to water whenever they need or want.

Domesticated dogs are largely carnivores but most eat some omnivorous foods. Avoid raw meat as it may contain harmful bacteria like salmonella. Cooked food is always safe both meat and veggies. You may include lamb, chicken, eggs, fish ,carrots, pumpkin. Remove bones while cooking as they tend to become brittle and the pieces can choke your dog while eating. Avoid salted food , chocolates and resins ( grapes ) as they can be dangerous.
Consult your Vet if you have doubt.

Why have a dog as a Pet?

The first question one always thinks when having a pet at home is which one? Should I keep a parrot, a dog, a cat or rabbit or a fish??. It's pretty difficult to decide which one from the vast range of animals or birds or even reptiles and insects to keep as pet. To start with i recommend you to close your eyes and think about the picture of the animal or bird or any living thing other than human which makes you feel happy. We all want to be happy and owning a pet must give you a source of joy and happiness. Making it simpler I would ask you a simple question. A stray dog comes to your courtyard. what do you do? How will you react on seeing a dog? Will you chase it away or open the gate and allow it to enter and move around while you go to the kitchen to bring some biscuits or cookies. If you allow the dog to enter your house compound, feed it, hug and play with it even when your family members like your mom or your dad ask you not to; then this shows yo...

Dog breeds

Dogs  are classified into 7 different groups. Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Working, Hounds, Terriers, and Toy breeds.  They all have different purposes and based on uses and characteristics, these different groups are used as a way to identify dogs.   Herding Dogs:   The Herding group was created in 1983 and is the newest group that was classified by the American Kennel Club.  Before this group was created, the dogs that are in this group currently were previously a part of the Working group.  A Herding dog is described as a dog that is easily trained to help with herding purposes.  Some of the dog breeds that fit under this category would be the Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and Old English Sheepdogs among others.  These dogs are great for herding for farm purposes among others, but require lots of space to run around and exercise. Sporting Dogs:   Dogs in the Sporting group are...

The first incident is from Khammam in the state of Telangana, India and posted in Telangana Today news epaper dated 12 April 2020 and is reproduced below. "Pet dog loses life to save owner from snake in Khammam". Kishore, an RMP doctor in Kallur, had a pet dog, a pomeranian named Snoopi, which the family loved .  On Sunday afternoon, Kishore was enjoying his siesta when a poisonous snake sneaked into his house . Snoopi, which spotted the reptile slithering into the house from the backyard tried to stop it by barking at it . But the snake ignored the dog’s warning and moved ahead.
